DESIGN STRATEGY

Project Overview

Federal contracting is a $700 billion industry managed by approximately ~60,000 contracting officers. Bidscale's belief and mission was empower government and businesses in the process through an Software-as-a-service platform brand new , designed and built from the ground up.

CHALLENGE

Using the official federal website, Sam.gov, as a baseline, our main objective was to completely overhaul its user experience with a much more intuitive interface and a fresh design, which currently does not cater to the needs of modern users. The existing website needed more intuitive navigation, robust features, and a professional design, making it difficult for federal agencies and businesses to use, whether experienced or new to the federal procurement scene. We took it upon ourselves to simplify the contracting, procurement, and acquisitions process and make it more accessible to all user types by developing a sleek, professional, and user-friendly design that exceeded our clients' expectations.

tHE APPROACH

The Digital Source Selection process is intricate and varies across different government agencies. To better understand how users interacted with the system, we first defined each persona’s responsibilities and mapped their interactions both within and outside the tool. By analyzing the different stages of source selection—including market research, award decisions, and post-award evaluations—we identified key moments where improvements could enhance efficiency and user experience.

Our team conducted a deep dive into existing user pain points and communication workflows, allowing us to pinpoint areas where the process could be streamlined. These insights led us to propose features aimed at improving collaboration and reducing the time required for report generation. We then developed interactive prototypes to test these enhancements, gathering feedback from users and stakeholders to validate our approach and develop a working tool accordingly.

impact

In our initial testing of stakeholders and a set of 8 users, we reduced our clients' contracting evaluation times by up to 40%
