USER EXPERIENCE

USER TESTING

DESIGN STRATEGY

Project Overview

Alarm.com's app feature needed an overhaul. Homeowners require an easy way to verify if an alarm is real or not to avoid false alarms. We conducted a survey in January 2021, and it became apparent that the feature needed a complete overhaul. During user testing, it was found that users were struggling to find what they wanted because they didn't know what triggered the alarm. They lacked clear directions and experienced anxiety during the process. To maximize our way of problem-solving, we introduced design sprints into the process.

CHALLENGE

Rethink user experience of alarm mode app for customer so that he/she can make informed decisions in a calmer state during an alarm event.

impact

This project was heading toward the right direction before I moved on from the organization. User testing showed 24% increase in user satisfaction surveys.

MY ROLE

SR Product Designer

TEAM

1 Engineer
2 Product Managers

Leveraging Design Sprints to problem solve.

Working with our researching we came up with a format using Miro boards to come generate as many ideas as a collective group that consisted of a few product owners, a designer who volunteered, the researcher, engineers and a stakeholder. In a span of 3 days the workshop consisted of several group exercises where we asked participants to diverge independently and converge ideas together in timed sequences. we dot voted and used affinity diagraming to cluster/groupings then prioritized which winners we wanted to focus on.
